What are Pokemon Prerelease Tournaments?
Pokemon prerelease tournaments are events held before the official launch of a new set. Participants are given a Build and Battle kit containing a 40-card ready-to-play deck, including 1 of 4 unique foil promo cards, along with 4 booster packs of the upcoming set.
For a traditional prerelease tournament players have 30 minutes to construct a 40-card deck using only the cards they receive in their kit (not including basic energies). Players will then will compete in three, best of one, 30 minute rounds. In Pokemon Prerelease Tournaments, 4 prize cards are used instead of 6, to keep the rounds shorter. Each player will receive three additional booster packs at the end of the tournament, as additional prizing for participation.
For a competitive prelease tournament, players will have 60 minutes to construct a 40-card deck and complete a deck list for the event. Players will then compete in five, best of three, 50 minute rounds. Instead of receiving three additional booster packs at the end of the event, players will receive one additional booster pack, and the other two will be added to a prize pool for the top 8 players.
